Spuybroek argues that we must 'undo' the twentieth century and learn to understand the aesthetic insights of the nineteenth-century art critic John Ruskin, from which he distils pointers for the contemporary age.

Linking philosophy, design, and the digital, with art history, architecture, and craft, Spuybroek explores the romantic notion of 'sympathy', a core concept in Ruskin's aesthetics, re-evaluating it as the driving force of the twenty-first century aesthetic experience.

Lars Spuybroek is Professor of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta where he teaches design methodology and aesthetic theory. He started teaching before graduating from the Technical University in Delft, and was appointed full professor at the University of Kassel Germany in Spuybroek was the editor of several journals such as NOX and Forum. More than articles have been written about his architectural work.

Lars Spuybroek born September 16, , Rotterdam is a Dutch architect , artist and author who lives and teaches in Atlanta , where he is a professor of architecture. He graduated cum laude at the Technical University Delft in Lars Spuybroek broke onto the international scene of architecture with his water pavilion on the island of Neeltje Jans opened in , a building consisting of two halves of which he designed the silvery freshwater part. It also has a so-called continuous geometry, where floors, walls and ceilings merge into a smooth whole. This form of blobitecture was later officially coined "non-standard architecture" at the large group exhibition of the same name at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. This architecture advocates a technological revolution where powerful computing-tools are deployed to replace simple repetition of elements by continuous variation.
