About the bookfollowing the triumph of dongri to dubai, s. Hussain zaidi is all set to woo readers with his new book, byculla to bangkok. Its captivating plot revolves around the reality behind the lives of mumbai gangsters and how they became that way.
How their callow and ingenuous minds were subjected to crime and violence, so much that it became part of their identities, is very effectively captured in this narration. The story describes the means by which they grew into a family of organized criminals, powerful enough to hold an entire city under bribery and extortion.
The contrast between their simple beginnings and later lives of atrocities makes byculla to bangkok a compelling read. Read more Read less. Coming after Dongri to Dubai I expected much more from this book. Though I understand the overlapping of stories and the incidents as the narrative is of mostly the Mumbai mafia.
But the structure is haphazard and all over the place. The story doesn't quite flow in a manner that keeps a reader hooked. May be it is just me but I got to know more about Arun Gawli and Ashwin Naik from Mumbai mafia but very little abt Chhota Rajan on whose subject the book is based on.
Overall a very laboured effort which doesn't quite do justice to the subject. Its a thrilling story of Mumbai mafia minus dawood.
This one is more about the role of gawlis, nayaks and rajan. Its different from its predecessor, Dongri to Dubai. Those who love reading historical facts and dont mind reading non fiction are apt readers.
The depiction is so real that you can actually feel dagdi chawl. Worth a read Even though this is a standalone book, read Dongri to Dubai first. Very insightful journey of Gangs of Bombay.. There can not be anyting more authoritative on Bombay and its underworld lords than this brilliant account of Hussain Zaidi. A reliable source to understand the mechanization of the most dreaded mafiasos of India.
