His meditation method consists of an anatomical scan and cemetery contemplations Which is not common among modern day meditators. After following his instructions I found his method to be of great results and I consider it as a method which reveals the doctrine of anatta more significantly. Thanks for u r response deva Rupa. I read this article about month ago. I would like to know ur point of view on this method of practice. Feelings - This is usually the easiest way for me to tune in to the sense spheres in general; from here I can move to the body or the mind in particular.

As a simple lay practitioner I really don't have much to add to the insightful comments of senior teachers like Joseph Goldstein and Shaila Catherine already featured in reviews here.
I have long been impressed by Ven. If I had to choose just one or two books to read for the rest of my life, this one and a selection of the suttas such as Bhikkhu Bodhi's "In the Buddha's Words" would be my choice. His entire body of work up to this point has clearly had that same intention, but here he sets the footnotes and complex references aside and offers up the pith essence of his decades of study and practice for immediate use by serious practitioners whether lay or monastic.
What a stunning gift. Like all other Analayo's books, this one is a masterpiece. Being a practical guide though, it has serious potential to revolutionize your practise. From the suttas we learn that the Buddha taught 40 meditation subjects. This is a first book where these are explained in an easy and immediately practical way, complete with supplementary guided meditations to bring them to life. In addition, Analayo weaves those subjects into a comprehensive, intuitive and very practical framework of awakening, each practice seamlessly building on the previous one, compounding the liberating effect of the practices, as taught by the Buddha.
This book is a treasure trove for serious practitioner intent on the path to full liberation. The book just keeps on giving, and the immense amount of wisdom, usefulness and practicality of this book is hard to put into words. I will be reading and re-reading this book many times over, and cannot praise and recommend this book highly enough.
Most deep and sincere gratitude goes out to Ven. Analayo for sharing this priceless Dhamma treasure with the world. This is the most direct manual for Satipatthana Meditation I have read. I definitely recommend heeding Analayo's advice and taking in the book slowly, possibly one chapter per week and exploring what you read for yourself before continuing on with the next chapter.
This book has its gems but one needs to have a prior knowledge of 4 Satipatthanas. Author does not spells them and assumes that the reader knows about them already. As expected the book is dense but certainly has useful gems for practice.
No doubt about the quality of the gems. They are indeed wonderful. There are no footnotes, and too much self-referencing to author's previous works. Seems like author wanted his previous books to be read before this one. Excellent book! This is my very first book by Bhikkhu Analayo.
I have gained a better understanding about the practice by his explanation. There is so much pearls of wisdom in this book that one reading is simply insufficient to absorb unless one is an experienced practitioner.
I will be reading his other book Sathipathana- direct path to realization before re-reading this book again. Thank you Bhikkhu Analayo for sharing the dharma! I am very grateful and lucky to have read this book. Go to Amazon. Back to top. Get to Know Us. Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands. Alexa Actionable Analytics for the Web. DPReview Digital Photography.
